ABOUT US

Ohio is a state in the eastern part of the Great Lakes in the United States. It is the 34th largest region, the 7th most populated, and the 10th most densely populated of the 50 United States. Columbus is the state capital and the most populated city in Ohio. Since 2016, Franklin County in Columbus has been the birthplace of the Haitian American Community Alliance.

In the early '70s, Ohio welcomed some Haitians civil engineers to work on city infrastructure, while others came to improve their living standards. Numerous Haitians have been following through from the early 2000s to present day. Currently, they are dispersed across 62 cities due to the intervention of either a family member or a friend. The most significant Haitian community in Ohio can be found in Columbus, Springfield, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Youngstown, Monfort Heights, Groveport, Pickerington, Canton, and Reynoldsburg.

In late 2000 and early 2001, a few attempts were made to unify the community. A group of individuals gathered at Neddy's auto school in 161 or Grandville to form an association of current entrepreneurs. It's unfortunate that it only lasts for a short time because a few members decided to split and form another association on Cleveland Ave, which failed to stay afloat.

At the inception of the year 2015, in the cafeteria of Mamre Christian Church, a few members convened to reassess the community's future with the intent to attempt a third time. An open forum was organized at the Barnett Business Center on May 29, 2016, where 48 participants were responded positively. We discussed some of the most crucial issues in our community during that meeting. After carefully considering those issues, the panel has concluded that real development cannot be achieved without adequate education in most aspects of community life. A non-profit organization named Haitian American Community Alliance was filed by the Secretary of State of Ohio on December 9, 2016. The federal government has granted us tax-exempt status under 501(c)(3) since June 9, 2017.
